From November 11 to 22, the Italian Joint Air Operations School (Ita-JAOS) based in Guidonia hosted the JPRS (Joint Personnel Recovery Staff) Course, one of the most significant training event in the field of personnel recovery operations. The course listed in NATO’s ETOC (Education and Training Opportunities Catalogue) as training opportunity opened to NATO partners, is characterized by a high degree of complexity and specialization required and saw the participation of 13 attendees, including international personnel.

The JPRS Course is designed to provide participants with advanced skills in managing JPR operations, critical domain in modern crisis and conflict scenarios. To ensure both teaching and operational effectiveness, the course required a high instructor-to-attendee ratio, essential for tackling its complex practical phases.

During the course, attendees were divided into four teams, each tasked with simulating the activities of a Personnel Recovery Coordination Center (PRCC) and a Joint Personnel Recovery Center (JPRC) while operating in realistic, high-intensity scenarios. This practical approach recreated complex operational dynamics, fostering immersive and effective learning.

The success of the course was made possible by the synergy of various institutions and organizations that contributed highly qualified resources:

  • EPRC (European Personnel Recovery Centre) in Poggio Renatico, which provided three experienced instructors;
  • COVI (Italian Joint Operational Command), which designated the Course Director, a prominent figure with extensive expertise in the field;
  • The Italian Armed Forces, which supplied additional specialized instructors, offering essential support to the success of the training activity.

The participation of international attendees underscored the multinational nature of the course, aligning with the need for a joint and combined interoperable approach among NATO member States. The "NATO Listed" certification highlights the quality of the training provided by the Ita JAOS and its crucial role within NATO's Collective Defence system.

The JPRS Course represents a significant milestone for the attendees. They had the opportunity to develop advanced skills in a highly qualified context. The success of the training activity has been ensured by the experience and professionalism of the instructors, as well as the logistical and organizational support provided by the School.

With this edition, the JAOS reaffirms its status as a center of excellence in both national and international training, contributing to the strengthening of the operational capabilities for both the Italian Armed Forces and NATO.
