On Friday 20th May, with the delivery of certificates and diplomas, the 72nd edition of the JTAC-IQ certification course and the 2nd IRS edition, the latter specifically designed for NATO / PfP (Partnership for Peace) personnel, has been concluded.

The courses, entirely in English, are the starting point for the development of highly specialized capabilities recognized within NATO in the field of air-to-surface operational integration and the interpretation and analysis of remote sensing images.

The JTAC-IQ course, lasting 13 weeks, provided the necessary training, for highly specialized operators, for the "guide", from privileged observation points, of aerotactic assets in air support operations close to the forces on the ground (Close Air Support, CAS in NATO terminology). Thanks to the many years of collaboration between the Joint Air Operations School and specific flight departments of the Air Force, the course allows you to experiment, in practical activities in environments as realistic as possible, the typical operational situations in which the JTAC, due to specific skills and characteristics of employment, is found to operate in support of the Ground Commander of the Operating Theater of reference.

Given the full compliance with the operational and quality standards required by NATO, the operators qualified by the Joint Air Operations School are also authorized to operate in joint operations with aerotactic assets of different countries of the Alliance. As such, the course just concluded is certified "Approved" by NATO and included among the courses of the Joint Air Operations School published in the ETOC catalog (Education and Training Opportunities Catalog), the catalog of certified courses offered by ACT (Allied Command for Transformation), the Supreme Command based in Norfolk in Virginia (USA), responsible for the formation, doctrine and transformation of NATO's military instrument.

The IRS course is specifically designed in-house by the Remote Sensing Courses Command of the Joint Institution of Guidonia to provide the visitor with the basic principles for the management of remote sensing images, the main techniques of visual interpretation of the same images, coming from different airport sensors and satellite, in addition to the use of analog and digital cartographic maps. The course that has just ended constitutes the first phase of a broader training process, developed on more and more professionalizing modules, for the exploitation and analysis of images for operational purposes, and is preparatory for admission to the subsequent Advanced Remote Sensing (ARS) course. The students acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to start his own training process in the field of imaging analysis, and the notions on the principles, purposes and potential of Remote Sensing, on its main applications, on the different products and related information outputs, as well as on the basic techniques of operational analysis of remote sensing images.

The IRS course is also certified "Approved" by NATO and included in the ACT Norfolk ETOC.
