
1st COURSE “INTRODUCTION TO SPACE ACTIVITIES” (IAS) STUDIES ON NEW DOMAINS AT THE JOINT AIR OPERATIONS SCHOOL

After 80 years, the space returns protagonist in the building, nowadays home of the Joint Air Operations School that, from 1935 to 1943, housed the Superior Directorate of Studies and Experiences (DSSE) of the newfound Air Force, where a group of young officers, called "I Guidoniani", including Gaetano Arturo Crocco and Luigi Broglio, placed the foundations of Italian space research.
08.04.2022 - The opening of innovative domains, such as space environment as 5th dimension of operations, requires new attention in the military training fields too. The Joint Air Operations School has taken up these new challenges and, together the Defense Space Operations Command, has launched the 1st Course Introduction to Space Activities. 18 attendees, including officers and NCOs from various departments of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri participated.
Hosted by the historical joint Institute of Guidonia, the students acquired basic and general knowledge on the capabilities, threats and vulnerabilities of space assets for operational purposes and crisis activities, including the main services provided by space systems, at national and international level (NATO and EU).
The course was entirely designed and delivered by the Joint Air Operations School, under the Space Operational Command supervision and together the General Space Office (UGS) of the Defense Staff, responsible Department for Defense space strategy.
