"This afternoon, I paid tribute to the three fallen servicemen with a moment of silence and prayer in the mortuary of Borgo Roma Hospital.
It was a heartfelt and solemn farewell filled with respect and gratitude for those who gave their lives in service of the State:
Lieutenant Special Rank Marco Piffari, Carabiniere Scelto Davide Bernardello, and Chief Brigadier Special Rank Valerio Daprà.
I visited the injured Carabinieri currently hospitalized at Borgo Trento and Negrar.
I wanted to meet them in person to express, on my own behalf and on behalf of the great Defense family, our deepest closeness and heartfelt gratitude for their courage and the extraordinary sense of duty they have demonstrated.
In each of them, I saw the strength, dignity, and spirit of service that define our Armed Forces and Law Enforcement.
Our thoughts, our affection, and our wishes for a full and swift recovery go to them.
In this time of profound sorrow, we renew our condolences for the loss of three exceptional men—Servants of the State who gave their lives fulfilling their duty until the very last moment.
Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
I was accompanied by the Commander General of the Carabinieri, General Salvatore Luongo, with whom I assessed the current situation and the conditions of the wounded personnel.
It was also an opportunity to reaffirm the full support of the Ministry of Defense to the Carabinieri Corps, to the affected families, and to all personnel involved.
My thoughts also go to the officers of the State Police and the Firefighters involved in the explosion.
We bow our heads in the face of this tragic event. And to the families, we can only say: we are here, and we will remain at your side, in the effort to help fill a void that, in truth, can never be filled.
The Ministry of Defense stands—and will always stand—with those who serve the country with honor.
A short while ago, one of the wounded Carabinieri said to me:
‘We are Carabinieri. We know we may be asked to take risks.’
This is who the Carabinieri are. Let us never forget it.” Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto
