"With immense sorrow, I learned this morning of the tragic loss of three Carabinieri, who fell in the line of duty today in Castel d’Azzano (VR), struck by an explosion during a clearance operation.
I wish to honor the memory of Lieutenant Special Rank Marco Piffari, Carabiniere Scelto Davide Bernardello, and Chief Brigadier Special Rank Valerio Daprà, who sacrificed their lives while carrying out their duty to serve the country until the very end.
In this moment of profound sadness, on my own behalf, as Minister of Defense, as a father, and as a citizen, and on behalf of every woman and man of the Defense forces, I express my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Carabinieri Corps.
I have conveyed my solidarity to the Commander General of the Carabinieri, General Salvatore Luongo, assuring him of the Defense Ministry’s full and concrete support in this painful moment.
The great Defense family embraces with affection and respect the families of the fallen soldiers.
I also express my heartfelt support and full solidarity to the Carabinieri, law enforcement officers, and firefighters injured in the explosion. Our thoughts, gratitude, and wishes for a speedy recovery go out to them.
Their courage, dedication, and spirit of service represent an extraordinary example of love for the country and the values that keep it united."
Thus spoke the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto.
