Joint Special Forces Operations Headquarters
Its symbol - The symbol of the Joint Special Forces Operations Headquarters - Comando interforze per le Operazioni delle Forze Speciali (COFS) is taken from the central element in the "Oath of the Horatii" by Jacques-Louis David (1784), depicting a father handing over to his sons the swords with which they will fight the Curatii of Alba Longa. According to Roman mythology, the dispute between the Horatii and the Curatii saw ancient Rome definitely assert its power over the other villages in Latium and thus begin its glorious and inexorable rise. The symbol, which is inscribed in a Roman infantry shield, stands for the defense of the homeland - represented by the hand of the father - through its three natural components - the three swords - namely land, sea and sky across which Special Operations develop. David's painting is now in the Louvre in Paris.
