The Centre for Higher Defence Studies / School of Advanced Defence Studies (CASD/SSU), in its double role of military higher education institution and academic institution, aims at developing a highly qualified military and civil leadership in an inter-governmental, interagency and international context, aware of changes, capable of developing critical thinking and prepared for innovating the organizations directly and indirectly related to the National Security and Defence.
The courses delivered by the Centre through its 4 Institutes - Institute For Higher Defence Studies (IASD) - Joint Forces Staff College (ISSMI) - Defence Research And Analysis Institute (IRAD) - Joint Logistics Education Centre (Cefli) - are open both to military and civilian sectors and provide the opportunity to attend PhD programs, first and second level master’s degrees, advanced education & training courses in the field of Defence & Security studies, with a particular focus on Leadership and Organizational Innovation, Global Strategy, Digital Dimension & Cybersecurity and Legal Studies for Innovation.
This double function makes our Centre a unique organization both for the MoD and for the Ministry of University and Research, fueling critical thinking and a pragmatic military mindset within the national academic system. The Centre’s “identity keys” are the experience in Leadership education, the strong innovation attitude, the international vocation and the openness toward the civil society.
In short, CASD’ mission is to promote education in the field of Defence & Security, opening its available capabilities and resources to the benefit of the whole country to update and complete the education background of the military higher ranks as well as of the civilian managers from the Public Administration, from the industry and from the national academic research field, including top level military officers of allied and friendly countries.
