The ship “Nave Tritone” was delivered to the Italian Navy on 14 April 2026, during a ceremony that marked a turning point in enhancing the underwater domain’s operational capabilities.

Among those attending the ceremony were Vice Admiral Vincenzo Montanaro, Chief of the Italian Navy’s Logistics Command, and Vice Admiral Cristiano Nervi, Director of NAVARM. Also present were Admiral Cristo Salvatore Traetta, Commander of the Fifth Naval Division and President of the Compliance and Acceptance Review Committee, as well as Dr. Gabriele Maria Cafaro, Executive Vice President of Fincantieri.

“Nave Tritone” is a remarkable industrial and operational milestone, the result of an acquisition and structural transformation project. The vessel, an innovative mothership with submarine characteristics, was completed in less than a year to meet specific needs within Italian defence.

It was conceived as a coordination hub for seafloor activities, but it is also a strategic unit dedicated to safeguarding critical infrastructure. Its operational applications include the surveillance and protection of oil and gas pipelines, trunklines, and underwater cables, all crucial assets for Italy and vulnerable to emerging threats.

Thanks to its advanced technological capabilities, the ship can carry out a number of diverse missions, including support for damaged submarines. This will ensure rapid assistance even in complex scenarios.

In an international scenario characterised by interconnection and vulnerability, “Nave Tritone” can enhance capabilities to safeguard national interests, significantly contributing to the security of critical infrastructure and to the strengthening of Italy’s operational presence in the underwater domain.
