For the first time since last October, Unifil (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) peacekeepers went back to school to conduct activities to the advantage of young Lebanese students.
Recently, in fact, the Blue Helmets from Alpine Brigade Taurinense, responsible for UNIFIL Sector West, have organized, in cooperation with the Lebanese Ministry of Education and municipal authorities, a social event for Tyre Intermediate Public School’s students, which also included games and sport competitions. The projects was part of the initiatives aimed to protect the weakest components of the local society as well as the gender perspective.
With the cooperation of the local Scout group and the engagement of the Italian military, over 250 boys and girls from 4 to 14 years old, from all confessions and walks of life, took part in the proposed activities. To underscore the meaning of this day of sharing between the Italian soldiers and their hosting Lebanese community, an olive tree was planted in schoolyard, as a symbol of their common commitment to peace.
The event also saw the participation of representatives form other UNIFIL contingents, in order for the event to be reiterated across all the UNIFIL Sector West territory.
