The Undersecretary of State for Defense, Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago, spoke, on behalf of the Minister of Defense, Hon. Guido Crosetto, at the third edition of the "Italy-France Dialogues: Defense and the Quirinale Treaty," organized by IREFI (Institute for Economic Relations between France and Italy).
"Italy and France," the Undersecretary said during his speech, "share a common vision to build a stronger, technologically advanced European defense capable of responding with unity and credibility to global challenges. The industrial and strategic synergies between our two countries represent the key to strengthening the autonomy and competitiveness of the entire continent and, consequently, that of the entire Atlantic Alliance."
"We live in an era marked by profound changes in geopolitical balances," Perego emphasized, "with conflicts of an increasingly hybrid nature extending beyond traditional domains, also involving space, cyber, and cognitive dimensions. These challenges require an inevitable qualitative leap in European cooperation that can no longer be postponed."
"Strengthening international cooperation," he concluded, "means developing a European pillar of innovation, security, and productive capabilities in the defense industry. Italy and France, together, can contribute to building a European defense based on interoperability, innovation, and a shared strategic vision while maintaining technological supremacy over our competitors. This is the challenge of our time: turning cooperation into capability."
