Undersecretary of State for Defence, the Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago, accompanied by His Excellency Paolo Dionisi, Italian Ambassador to Thailand, met with the crew of Italian Navy Ship Montecuccoli.
“At a time when an action perpetrated in a faraway area can reverberate thousands of miles away, we must focus on the effects that the Defence is able to generate in all domains”, he stated as he greeted Navy Ship Raimondo Montecuccoli personnel. The ship docked at Laem Chambang within the projection campaign in the Indo-Pacific.
During his meeting with the crew of the Multi-Purpose High Seas Patrol Combat Ship, Undersecretary Perego underscored that the presence of Italian Defence assets in the Indo-Pacific region –an increasingly crucial area for international balance and global security, is fundamental to the role that Italy plays at the geopolitical level.
“The Italian presence with this incredible naval asset -a jewel of our shipbuilding industry and Made in Italy technology-, in this strategic area for international equilibria, allowed us to present, effectively and credibly, the excellence of the Italian Defence industry and the capacity of our Armed Forces to generate effects contributing to international stability in this region”, the Undersecretary underscored. “We owe you, men and women of the Defence, our gratitude for your unrelenting commitment in continuing to operate to protect the security and wealth of our country at this particular time in history”.
Moreover, Navy Ship Raimondo Montecuccoli during her stop was the venue of the Italian Industry Day event, dedicated to promoting our best national industrial realities operating in the defence sector, during which opportunities fro cooperation with the local production network were assessed.
Furthermore, Undersecretary Perego took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Sattashiv Navy Special Forces Command: “An important opportunity to get acquainted with a unit engaged in countering common security challenges such as piracy and smuggling”, the Hon. Perego concluded.
