The mission of the Undersecretary of State for Defence, Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago, concluded in Thailand, where he represented the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, at the inauguration of Defense & Security 2025, one of Asia's leading exhibitions organized under the ASEAN framework, dedicated to defense and security themes.
The fair serves as an important international meeting point, bringing together senior leaders from defence, the armed forces, government officials, and key players in the industry. Italy participated with a delegation of industrial excellence, including Leonardo, Beretta, Ceia, MBDA, Elettronica, Fincantieri, and Wass, demonstrating the strength and competitiveness of the national defense industry in the global landscape. Undersecretary Perego, accompanied by the Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, H.E. Paolo Dionisi, had a cordial meeting with the Thai Minister of Defence, Gen. Nattapon Nakpanich. During their discussion, the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the defense and security sectors was emphasized, highlighting the potential for industrial collaboration between the two countries, particularly in light of the ongoing modernization program of the Thai armed forces.
"This dialogue," stated Undersecretary Perego, "takes place in a geopolitical context of growing importance for the Indo-Pacific region, which is set to play an increasingly central role in global balances in the coming years."
During the mission, the Undersecretary also participated in a ceremony at the Royal Thai Naval Academy, where he presented the honorary sword to the top-performing cadet, symbolizing the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, and shared values between the Italian and Thai armed forces. This initiative continues from the activities carried out last year aboard the ship Amerigo Vespucci. "This cooperation," concluded Perego, "not only consolidates Italy's presence in such a crucial region as the Indo-Pacific but also opens new prospects for shared development. It is a synergy essential for contributing to international stability and security, and I am convinced that a strong and lasting partnership between Italy and Thailand represents an indispensable strategic resource for successfully addressing future challenges."
Finally, Undersecretary Perego visited the Grand Palace to pay respects to the late Queen Mother Sirikit.
