“Artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming every aspect of our society, including the defense and justice sectors. Managing this evolution means seizing its opportunities while also establishing limits and rules for its responsible use.”
So said the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Matteo Perego di Cremnago, speaking at the conference “Possibilities and Limits of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Justice System and Defense,” organized by the Military Judicial Council at the Advanced Training School for Police Forces in Rome.

“The field of justice requires particular attention, as it directly involves the safeguards and responsibilities of personnel. Artificial intelligence has enormous potential to support the work of the military judiciary, but the final judgment and decision must remain with the judge, who bears responsibility for the decision,” the Undersecretary emphasized.

“For this reason, research, specialized expertise, and technological infrastructure capable of ensuring data security and integrity must accompany the military justice system’s use of new technologies. These are essential investments to ensure full respect for the rule of law, legal rights, and national sovereignty,” concluded Undersecretary Perego.
