The Undersecretary of State for Defense, Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago, participated in the roundtable discussion “Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Data Centers for the Space Economy” as part of the 2026 Space Economy Summit, held at Allianz MiCo in Milan.
“Space is taking on an increasingly central role in national defense and security. In an international landscape where domains and dimensions are increasingly interconnected, we must strengthen the defense sector’s ability to understand, monitor, and protect its strategic infrastructure, while simultaneously consolidating our role in sectors with the highest technological value, such as space,” the Undersecretary stated in his remarks.
“The challenge is to transform innovation into concrete capabilities, continuing to invest in research, expertise, and the strengthening of the national industrial and technological base, while keeping human judgment and decision-making at the center,” he emphasized.
“In this process, collaboration between the public and private sectors represents a fundamental model for accelerating technology transfer and translating scientific knowledge into operational solutions within an increasingly complex and competitive geopolitical context,” the Undersecretary concluded.
