Undersecretary of State for Defence, Senator Isabella Rauti, today, in Piazza San Pietro, attended Pope Francis’ funeral with top military authorities. Rauti underscored: “In the globalization era, Pope Francis was the Pope of geographic and social peripheries, to which he wanted to give centrality and draw attention, with his special way of communicating and his simple, direct vocabulary, of the people and for all the people. His legacy is his sensitivity for the poor of the earth and the values of mercy and acceptance”. The funeral was attended by 200 thousand believers, a sign of popular devotion, and Heads of State and Government delegations from 170 countries.
“Francis – the Undersecretary continued- showed great sensitivity for the conditions of disadvantaged people during his pastoral work, and he gave back to us the sense of the Church being “like a war hospital after a fight”, as Cardinal Re recalled in his homily”.
