During his official visit to the United Arab Emirates, Minister Crosetto met with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stating:
“I had the honor of meeting the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as part of my official visit to the country.
I first conveyed to him the greetings of the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, who recently visited him, reaffirming her sense of closeness to the Emirati Government and people.
With His Highness, we discussed in practical and concrete terms initiatives to strengthen cooperation between our countries in the fields of defense and security.
We also reviewed recent developments in the Middle East and the implications of the war with Iran for regional and international stability, as well as for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
I expressed appreciation for the contribution of the United Arab Emirates to de-escalation in the region and the hope that the ceasefire may pave the way for a negotiated solution to the conflict.”
Earlier, Minister Crosetto held a cordial and productive meeting with the UAE Minister of State for Defense Affairs, Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei.
“At the center of our discussions was the serious crisis in the Middle East and the Iranian attacks, which I firmly condemned while expressing our country’s solidarity. In such a delicate context, we support every effort toward de-escalation, the maintenance of the ceasefire, and ongoing initiatives to bring the conflict to an end. I therefore reaffirmed Italy’s support at this difficult time. On this occasion, we signed a Letter of Intent aimed at strengthening and expanding cooperation between our countries, within the framework of a strategic partnership built on training, the exchange of experience, and dialogue between our respective Armed Forces. The UAE are key actors in the stability of the Middle East, a stability that directly affects our own security,” Minister Crosetto stated.
