Italy’s 40th Expedition, organized within the framework of a national research programme in Antarctica (PNRA), also sees the participation of the Defence.
Specialized personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri will work shoulder to shoulder with the researcher for the whole duration of the expedition to make the external and underwater campaigns, as well as Air Force operations, possible, safe and secure thanks to the competences of meteorologists and flight controllers.
In particular, the last landing on the Antarctica pack marked the closing of the air lift implemented by the Air Force to move materials and personnel to Italian Base Mario Zucchelli. The air lift was conducted according to a cooperation agreement with the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Development (ENEA).
