The day of the navy military

Today, in Palermo, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, the Navy Day was celebrated.

"A ship can face the sea only if every member of the crew does their part.

The Italian Navy is like that: made up of ships, technology, industry, and operational capabilities. But above all, it is made up of women and men whose names we often do not know who work for our security, at sea and from the sea.

At a time when technology is advancing ever more rapidly, the human element remains central: the ability to exercise judgment, take responsibility, respect rules and, above all, uphold values.

You teach us this: a ship functions only when everyone understands the importance of their role.

As on board a ship, the greatness of a nation is measured by the attention it gives to the newest member and to those who are struggling. The same is true of Defence: a great family, a source of strength for each individual and a shelter in difficult times, a safe harbor when the sea is stormy. And you are an example of this.

For this reason as well, it is an honor to be here today to convey to you and your families the gratitude of the nation.” Remarks by Guido Crosetto on the occasion of the Giornata della Marina Militare.

The event was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Luciano Portolano, the Chief of the Italian Navy Staff, Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, as well as civil, military, and religious authorities. Also present was the Undersecretary of State for Defence, Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago.

During the ceremony, Minister Guido Crosetto awarded the Gold Medal for Naval Merit to the Standard of Andrea Doria and to the War Flag of the Fourth Helicopter Group.

This was followed by the presentation of the Battle Flag to Spartaco Schergat. The flag was blessed by the Military Ordinary Archbishop for Italy, His Excellency the Most Reverend Monsignor Gian Franco Saba and, in keeping with naval tradition, was carried aboard by the youngest naval officer serving on the ship.
