A stolen work of art. A looted archaeological artefact. A cultural asset illegally exported.

Recovering them means giving a community back a part of its history.

Defending the country also means protecting its history, its art and its identity. This is the mission of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, a specialised unit of the Carabinieri Corps.

This commitment extends across Italy and abroad. The Command operates under the functional authority of the Minister of Culture and works in cooperation with other Police Forces, Interpol and Europol.

Expertise and information are shared to trace stolen cultural assets and return them to the communities to which they belong.

This, too, is Defence.
