The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, had a cordial videoconference meeting this morning with Japan’s Minister of Defence, Shinjirō Koizumi.
At the center of the discussion was the current international scenario, with a shared awareness that Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security are increasingly interconnected today: “what happens in Ukraine is directly linked to the situation in Asia, and vice versa.”
The meeting was also an opportunity to examine in greater depth the circumstances and measures taken regarding the incident that occurred on December 6, when a Chinese military aircraft targeted the radar of a Japan Self-Defense Forces plane. “This makes even clearer and allows for a full understanding of what is happening around Japan, to which I expressed my full solidarity.”
The discussion focused not only on the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP): cooperation between Italy and Japan is set to evolve in a broad, multi-domain perspective. There is a shared willingness to further strengthen relations between our two nations in order to jointly contribute to international security and stability within an increasingly complex global environment,” Minister Crosetto stated.
