“Yesterday, the Parliament took an important step forward for the memory and respect of our Fallen: the relic of Navy Submarine Sciré, which drowned in 1942 with its crew, was official recognized as a War Memorial by our Navy. Starting from today, it will cease to be just a relic, to become the vivid recollection of the courage, sacrifice and dedication to serving the country of its crew. Thus, an act of justice and memory honours the servicemen that served the country with dedication at a tragic moment in our history. This recognition strongly reaffirms our duty to honour the Fallen, safeguarding their memory with respect, acknowledgement and truth. Personally and on behalf of the Italian Defence, I would like to thank all the Members of Parliament who, regardless of their political beliefs, decided to honour the memory of our Sailors. My heartfelt gratitude goes also to all those who, with commitment and determination, made possible this important and due recognition”. Thus Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on the recognition of Submarine Sciré as War Memorial.
