The uncontrolled re-entry of debris from a space rocket, closely monitored over the past few hours, has concluded as expected with no impact on national territory. Monitoring activities were ensured by the Ministry of Defence through the Space Situational Awareness Centre of the Italian Air Force, which continuously tracked the evolution of the event and updated orbital calculations, confirming the absence of any risk to the country.
The Space Situational Awareness Centre operates on a daily basis to ensure security in space—an increasingly strategic domain—by conducting surveillance and tracking of satellites and orbital debris, monitoring solar activity, analyzing data on artificial space objects, identifying potential threats, and preventing collisions. This is a silent, continuous, and highly specialized effort that directly contributes to safeguarding national space capabilities and collective security.
“Space continues to prove itself as an indispensable domain for national security. The Ministry of Defence protects it with expertise and strategic vision, fully aware that safeguarding what happens beyond the atmosphere means concretely protecting the country and its citizens,” said the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto.
