The closing ceremony of the 20th "Darwish" Course, held for personnel of the Somali Police Force (SPF) and conducted by instructors from the MIADIT 20 Training Unit, has taken place recently at Djibouti "Idriss Farah Abaneh" National Police Academy.
During the 3-month training course, instructors from the Carabinieri Corps have trained 95 policemen from the Somali Police Force, thus taking the number of Somali police personnel trained by MIADIT over 10 years to 3,100, added to which are the over 4,500 units from the Djibouti Security Forces.
During the closing ceremony, attended by political, civilian and religious authorities from Italy and Djibouti, an exercise was conducted under the command, coordination and control of the Mission’s Training Unit, to testify to the professional level achieved by the course attendees. Furthermore , the Darwish – a Somali Police unit engaged in the most challenging and delicate anti-terrorism operations- simulated an intervention in which a tactical unit caught and arrested an armed criminal who was hiding among the crowd.
"Darwish" units engaged in stability policing, law enforcement and high-risk interventions are mainly deployed in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, and along the country’s borders, where they operate to maintain stability and protect order and public security.
