The Council of Ministers has approved the reinforcement of Operation "Strade Sicure" in Milan with an additional 500 military personnel, whom Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto will make available immediately to strengthen the security arrangements across the city.
This concrete measure is also the result of the cooperation and work carried out alongside the Minister by Undersecretaries of State for Defence Matteo Perego and Isabella Rauti. It reaffirms the role of the Defence in serving the country and Minister Crosetto's determination to respond swiftly to the city's security needs.
The 500 military personnel will strengthen security posts, intensify surveillance of sensitive sites and increase the capacity to monitor the territory. Their deployment will also help improve the allocation of resources, enabling the State Police and the Carabinieri to focus more of their personnel on crime prevention, intervention and law enforcement activities, as well as public order duties.
The military personnel will operate within the scope of the tasks assigned under Operation "Strade Sicure", in coordination with the Police Forces and in compliance with their respective responsibilities. This reinforcement will increase the overall capacity of the security arrangements and enable the available personnel and expertise to be deployed more effectively.
The Defence is present and responding with personnel and operational capabilities. The objective is to strengthen the presence of the State, provide tangible support for the work of law enforcement agencies and ensure greater security for citizens.
By making the 500 military personnel available immediately, Minister Crosetto, together with Undersecretaries Matteo Perego and Isabella Rauti — who has managed the portfolio for Operation "Strade Sicure" with exceptional ability over the past four years — reaffirms the Defence's commitment to addressing Milan's security needs promptly and effectively.
