This year also the Italian Defence took part- with representatives from the Italian Army and Air Force- in the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) held at Fairford (UK) from 14 to 16 July.
In particular, Italian Army helicopter AH129D, also known as “Mangusta", designed and manufactured by the Italian industry, won the “Best flying demonstration by an overseas participant" contest.
During the three-day event also the Italian Air Force won two important awards.
The Concours d'élégance was assigned to the aircraft with the best livery design and distinctive character, the Italian Air Force U-208 "Special Color" belonging to 60th Wing-Guidonia: the livery was dedicated to the Air Force Centennial. The award was dedicated to Col. Giuseppe Cipriano e al Lt. Col. Marco Meneghello, 60th Wing pilots recently fallen during a flight accident in Guidonia.
The “Blues" also won the "Spirit of the Meet" award, assigned to the participating country which better embodies the spirit and values of the Royal International Air Tattoo.
