The Italian Navy frigate **Bergamini**, deployed as part of the European Union's **EUNAVFOR ASPIDES** operation, escorted a merchant vessel during its transit through the Red Sea.

"The operation carried out by the Italian Navy vessel provides further tangible evidence of Italy's commitment to promoting international maritime security and protecting the world's main commercial shipping routes, which are essential to global economic stability and the supply of vital goods.

The security of maritime routes is not only a matter of trade; it is also a strategic interest for global stability, energy security, and the prosperity of our economies. The women and men of the Italian Navy serving in Operation ASPIDES carry out their duties every day with professionalism, courage, and a strong sense of duty, helping to safeguard freedom of navigation and collective security. They have my sincere gratitude and that of the Government," said Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto.

Through its participation in **EUNAVFOR ASPIDES**, Italy continues to work alongside its European partners to uphold international law, protect freedom of navigation, and ensure the security of merchant shipping in a region facing persistent threats to regional stability.
