Today, in the presence of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, the traditional Mak Π 100 Ceremony in honour of the Military Academy cadets of 205th Course “Fierezza” has taken place at Modena Parco Novi Sad. The event marks 100 days from the end of the 2-yesr course.
“Mach pi cent", meaning “we’ve got 100 days to go“, the cadets used to say in my Piedmont dialect, over 150 years ago. Today Mak Π 100 is much more than a countdown: it is the symbol of the commitment, the mission implied in being officers of the Italian Armed Forces. Dear Cadets, the memory of this day will stay with you all your life. It marks the approach of a turning point for you professional and personal lives: from Cadet to Officer, from being a student to being a commander. Today, for you and for us, the presence of the President of the Republic, whom I would like to thank again for his participation, pays homage to this day and underscores the depth of its institutional meaning.
Mak Π 100 marks that continuity between generations of soldiers. It is the symbol of the historical legacy made up of traditions and duties that today will be entrusted to you by this Academy, even if it is marked by a seeming contradiction: safeguarding ancient values and while training to tackle an uncertain, continuously evolving future. No technology, however, even the most advanced ones, will ever replace what is actually paramount for the Armed Forces and for you country: your conscience ad your values, including those that were transmitted by your families, who are here today and look at you with pride. Always be an example for everyone: your future soldiers, your families, your country. Do that because being a commander does not mean exerting power, but to showing the way. Especially at difficult times, you will find out that ethics is not an abstract notion, but a real compass. You have chosen a challenging, if extremely significant way. To you we entrust the defence of the nation, our future. Live up to the expectations that Italy entrusts you with!”
Thus Minister Guido Crosetto at the Mak Π 100 Ceremony for the Modena Army Academy cadets of 205th Course “Fierezza”.
During the ceremony speeches were also delivered by Chief of defence Staff Gen. Luciano Portolano, Chief of Army Staff Gen. Carmine Masiello and civillian, military and religious authorities.
