“Tonight I had a very important, very cordial phone call with my Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz. An important opportunity to underscore that Italy deems the ceasefire in Lebanon – and hopefully, in Gaza and across Palestine - a crucial opportunity for stability in the region, not to be wasted or dissipated.
I reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in the Middle East, underscoring the importance for all the parties to respected the current ceasefire. This is, in my opinion, a fundamental point to support the peace process. A fragile, precarious process, but of the essence, in which UNIFIL, where Italy is the second contributing nation, can play an increasingly relevant role.
During talks, I also expressed my concern on the increasing destabilization in Syria, and and reiterated the need to prevent further escalation that would result in disastrous consequences in a region already hardly hit by recent and past wars and conflicts. I have confirmed the commitment of the Italian Defence to work with determination to foster peace and security in the region”. Thus Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto.
