This morning, in Piazza del Quirinale, the inauguration ceremony for the Olympic Flame’s Journey took place, during which the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, lit the cauldron of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games with the Olympic torch.
The event was marked by the National Anthem performed by the Interforces Band and a flyover by the Frecce Tricolori, which painted the sky in the colors of the Italian flag.
The Olympic Flame will remain lit in Piazza del Quirinale until 5:00 p.m.
Starting tomorrow, December 6, the Flame will travel through 60 stops over 12,000 km, passing through 110 provinces and more than 300 municipalities. The route will conclude on February 6, 2026, in Milan, with the Opening Ceremony at San Siro Stadium.
