“My meeting with my counterpart, the UK Secretary of State for Defence, John Healey, was very positive. The discussion focused on security issues in Europe, with particular attention to Ukraine, the wider Mediterranean and the Middle East.
On the issue of Ukraine, I reiterated our firm support for the country, emphasizing the need for our assistance to be clear, pragmatic, and consistent with the reality on the ground, without anticipating developments prematurely.
We also addressed the GCAP program, the sixth-generation fighter involving Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. For its technological development, which is progressing rapidly, the most advanced tools for the ‘collaborative working environment’ that we are establishing with the UK and Japan are becoming central.
Finally, we reaffirmed the positive industrial and military cooperation between the Italian and British Armed Forces, both in terms of training and joint exercises. The possibility was raised of renewing the activities carried out last year in Australia and Japan.”
This was stated by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, today in London during his official visit.
Earlier, the Minister took part in the meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group —
a crucial event to reaffirm Italy’s support for Kyiv and to strengthen international cooperation aimed at ensuring global stability and security.
“The priority is to stop the war. Italy supports a lasting ceasefire and is already looking towards reconstruction: a free and prosperous Ukraine means vital infrastructures rebuilt for a stable and secure future. Until there is a truce and a just and lasting peace, Italy will continue to support Ukraine in its fight to defend its territory. Italy is ready to promote those security assurances necessary to protect the Ukrainian people,” said Minister Crosetto.
Italy’s participation in this summit represents not only a concrete sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, but also a commitment to continue dialogue with allies and international partners to build a path leading to a shared and sustainable peace.
