The Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, on an official visit to Qatar, was received by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
"It was an honor to be received by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to whom I conveyed Italy's closeness and greetings from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, renewing our solidarity with the Government and people of Qatar a friendly nation unjustly affected by Iranian attacks. It was an opportunity to reaffirm the value of cooperation at such a delicate moment for the entire region.
During the cordial conversation, we shared the need to support every diplomatic effort useful in facilitating a way out of the crisis and building a more stable and solid regional security architecture.
Particular attention was also given to the urgency of ensuring full freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, an essential hub for international economic and strategic balance.
Finally, we reaffirmed our mutual desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between our Armed Forces, in the defense industry field, and in the energy security sector", the Minister declared at the end of the meeting.
Earlier, the Minister met with His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs of Qatar.
"A cordial and productive meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs of Qatar a country vital to regional stability and a leading player in the Middle Eastern context. I expressed solidarity for the suffering endured by the Qatari people and for the damage caused to strategic and energy infrastructure by Iranian attacks. Doha has historically exercised a highly significant mediation role and continues to distinguish itself, in other crises as well, as a pragmatic and reliable interlocutor, as well as a staunch supporter of dialogue and negotiated solutions. We shared the desire to strengthen the bond of friendship between our countries, to work together for peace in the Middle East a region whose dynamics significantly impact our security and our economy and to further consolidate the excellent cooperation between our Armed Forces and within the defense industry sector."
