The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, on an official visit to France, had a productive meeting with his counterpart Catherine Vautrin, in the spirit of the special relationship of friendship and cooperation that unites Italy and France in the field of security and Defence.
“The meeting confirmed our shared willingness to further strengthen bilateral and European cooperation,” said the Minister, who added: “We discussed enhancing the capabilities we already share, as well as new ones we intend to develop together, and improving interoperability in emerging Defence sectors — from space to underwater domains, including multidomain operations, integrated air defence, countering hybrid warfare, and the increasing relevance of the Southern flank. In this context, we also explored the issue of Defence governance within the European Union, which remains the responsibility of Member States.
Finally, we reaffirmed the joint commitment of Italy and France to promoting peace and stability, with particular attention to major crisis scenarios.”
On the same day, the Minister also travelled to Lisbon to meet with his Portuguese counterpart, Nuno Melo, and to sign a letter of intent.
