"The Italian Tricolour was born in Reggio Emilia on January 7, 1797, adopted as the banner of the newborn Cispadane Republic. Today, as in every day of its history, the Italian flag remains the symbol par excellence of national identity. Three colors - green, white, and red - that embody the founding values of the Republic: liberty, democracy, and unity, pillars that have forged the history of the country. These are values that the men and women of the Armed Forces represent daily with honor and responsibility, in Italy and throughout the world, to protect the Nation and the principles that the Tricolour continues to safeguard and transmit." These were the words of the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, for the Feast of the Tricolour.
