The Italian Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, and the Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans of the French Republic, Catherine Vautrin, held a detailed telephone conversation yesterday afternoon focused on the serious crisis in Lebanon.
The two Ministers expressed strong and deep concern over the deterioration of the security situation in the area, with particular reference to the recent attacks against UNIFIL personnel, which resulted in the death of three peacekeepers and the injury of others. They strongly emphasized the unacceptability of such incidents and the growing risks faced by the personnel engaged in the mission.
During the discussion, there was full agreement on the strategic importance of UNIFIL. It was highlighted that Lebanon’s stability is an essential pillar for the balance of the entire Mediterranean region, confirming that Italy and France will continue to operate in close coordination to ensure the safety of international personnel, uphold peace, and support the Lebanese authorities.
