Minister Crosetto with Prime Minister Meloni meet with the Baltic Task Group Italian contingent

"Prime Minister Meloni and I met with the servicemen and servicewomen of Task Group Baltic. Their dedication and commitment in serving their country, far away from their families and loved ones fills mi heart with pride. Thank you", the Defence Minister said during his meeting with the Italian contingent, part of Task Group Baltic, engaged in operation Baltic Guardian in Latvia.

Minister Crosetto, with President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni visited the Latvian military base at Camp Adazi to express the gratitude of the Country, institutions and Italian people to our military for their contribution to an important, delicate mission, I.e. strengthening the presence of the Alliance on the eastern flank of the Euro-Atlantic area.

The National contingent, part of Task Force Baltic engaged in operation Baltic Guardian, is deployed in Latvia within the framework of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP). Italy participates in the NATO mechanism made up of 4 multinational battle groups, each led by a Framework Nation (Canada in Latvia, Germany in Lithuania, the UK in Estonia and USA in Poland).

Upon their arrival at Camp Adazi, Minister Crosetto and PM Meloni paid homage to the fallen by laying a candle at the Parade Square Memorial, dedicated to the Italian military fallen of 11 November 2016.

Before visiting Camp Adazi the Minister had met with his Latvian counterpart, Inara Murniece, in Riga.

"Cordial meeting with my Latvian colleague Murniece. We share a common commitment to collective security within NATO and the EU, and a fruitful dialogue aimed at cooperation between our Armed Forces and in the Defence industry sector. I received appreciation for the good job done by our military within Task Group Baltic".
