“The amaranth beret is not just a symbol. It is a story.
It tells of the tradition of Italian paratroopers, the courage of those who served far from their homeland—a story of loyalty, integrity, and the sacrifice of the men and women who have written important chapters in our history.
Paratroopers represent one of the finest elements of the Italian Army and the Armed Forces: strength, training, courage, but also humanity.
This is the quality the world recognizes in the Italian soldier: knowing how to be resolute when needed, not fearing danger, but also knowing how to extend a helping hand to those in need. To those who choose to wear a uniform, knowing how much sacrifice this life demands, I offer my gratitude.
Thinking of you, and all your colleagues in the Armed Forces, of what you do and how you do it, is like “oxygen” to me: a driving force to keep moving forward, to give my best, to overcome daily challenges, and to serve the Republic and its institutions every day.
Because behind every uniform lies a conscious choice.
Behind every oath lies a commitment to the Republic.
Behind every amaranth beret lies a story of service to Italy."
So said Defense Minister Guido Crosetto today in Pisa while meeting with personnel from the Italian Army’s “Folgore” Parachute Brigade.
