“Our three great G/7countries have embarked upon an important journey. The GCAP project, part of a broader Defence strategy, relies upon equal participation in financial, industrial and technological terms. We must now ensure respect of deadlines and a clear picture on technology and work-share”.
Thus Defence Minister Guido Crosetto during the trilateral meeting with UK Secretary of State for Defence John Healey and Japan Minister of Defence Minoru Kihara.
The meeting took place at Whitehall, headquarters to the UK Ministry of Defence. An opportunity to support the GCAP (Global Combat Air Programme) on the new 6th generation aircraft. An ambitious programme, fundamental for Italy to develop innovative capabilities and technologies and ensure operational edge in the face of future challenges.
The trilateral meeting concluded Minister Crosetto’s visit to London, where over the last two days he has held various institutional meetings.
This morning, at the Italian Embassy in the UK, he held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Minoru Kihara, an opportunity for a productive discussion on new sectors of cooperation between the Italian Armed Forces and Japanese Armed Forces, and developing cooperation in the defence industry sector.
Yesterday, he met Maria Eagle, UK Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry.
An opportunity to reiterate the significant bond between Italy and the UK and deepen opportunities offered by the GCAP project in terms of industrial cooperation and developing a technology hub. Themes of discussion included disinformation and the danger originating from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
Yesterday Minister Crosetto also met with Polish Secretary of State for Defence Pawel Bejda.
Talks focused on cooperation between the Armed Forces and within the defence industry sector.
Minister Crosetto received the appreciation of the Polish Secretary of State for the role Italy has assumed within the EU and NATO.
