Minister Crosetto meets with the Head of the Federal Department of Defence of the Swiss Confederation

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto met with Viola Amherd, Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport of the Swiss Confederation today in Berne.

“A cordial meeting with my Swiss colleague, Viola Amherd. Our countries share a close partnership and common values. Talks focused on strengthening cooperation between our Armed Forces in Kosovo, within the framework of strategic air transport and for stability in the Western Balkans,” Minister Crosetto said at the end of the meeting.

Key themes included the mutual will to strengthen cooperation initiatives between Italy and the Federal Republic of Switzerland in the defence and industry sectors and with regard to the situation in the Middle East and security in the Western Balkans and Central Africa.

“Italy and Switzerland are committed to promote dialogue and compliance with International Humanitarian Law. We have shared the need to pay maximum attention to ongoing crises and their reverberations in the Enlarged Mediterranean.”

During the meeting, initiatives aimed to intensify joint training were also discussed.
