Minister Crosetto Meets the Honorary President of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region

The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, held a cordial and friendly meeting with the former President of the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, Massoud Barzani, an authoritative political and moral point of reference for the region.

“During the meeting, I emphasized the central role of Erbil as a factor of stability and of strategic importance for the Middle East,” Minister Crosetto stated. “In this context,” he continued, “countering threats to global security remains essential, starting with the dangerous resurgence of Daesh, in the fight against which the Kurdish people have represented an example and a vital point of reference. It is indispensable to prevent and contain increasingly active hotspots of instability, through a strong commitment by the international community to ensure security and peaceful coexistence for the Kurdish population in Syria.”
