The Italian Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, held an important meeting with Jyrki Katainen, the EU Special Adviser for Arctic Relations.
"We discussed the growing strategic importance of the Arctic region, which is set to play an increasingly central role in global geopolitical and security dynamics. This is a necessary reflection, in the awareness that the decisions we make today will help shape the balance of tomorrow.
Faced with such complex challenges, it is essential to strengthen the European Union's action, as well as coordination with Member States and with NATO's efforts, in order to enhance deterrence, resilience and the development of shared capabilities.
In this context, Italy reaffirms its commitment to contributing to the security and stability of the Arctic region, which also represents a strategic opportunity to showcase the country's strengths in defence, research, technological innovation and industry.
Continuing to invest in these areas means strengthening Italy's contribution to collective security and consolidating its role on the international stage". Minister Crosetto said.
The meeting was also attended by Undersecretary of State for Defence Senator Isabella Rauti, who is responsible for matters relating to the Arctic, Sub-Arctic and Antarctic.
