Defence Minister Guido Crosetto today, at Palazzo Esercito, met with the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden, Pål Jonson.
“Productive meeting with Swedish colleague Pål Jonson. Sweden is a strategic ally and staunch supporter of strengthening NATO’s European pillar, besides being a relevant member of the European Union. We shared our common willingness to strengthen our cooperation and develop new synergies in the sector of defence industry focusing on space, the underwater domain, cyber threats and hybrid warfare. We also deepened the importance of our common commitment to a continental European defence that goes beyond the “27 States” concept..
Positive interactions were underscored within the framework of the NATO Forward Land Forces in Latvia, as well as interest in the planned establishment of a similar mechanism in Finland. I received appreciation for the training of Swedish military pilots at the Italian Air Force International Flight Training School.
We were fully aligned on the Indo-Pacific and its strategic relevance, and reiterated the need for a 360 degrees NATO posture, that must guarantee security also on the Southern Flank to effectively tackle the challenges emanating from the Wider Mediterranean area”.
Thus Defence Minister Guido Crosetto.
