Minister Crosetto meets a delegation of parliamentarians from Japan’s House of Councillors

The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, today held an important and cordial meeting with a delegation of parliamentarians from Japan’s House of Councillors, led by Vice President Tetsuro Fukuyama.
“It was a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the strategic partnership between our countries, founded on shared values and on full alignment of visions and objectives, including in the fields of defence and security” said Minister Crosetto, who added.“We reiterated the importance of cooperation between our Armed Forces, supported by joint training and exercise activities, and we discussed further areas of collaboration at the operational, training, and educational levels”A shared focus was expressed on the geo-strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific, with the awareness that the stability and security of the region are increasingly interconnected with those of the Mediterranean:
“Italy and Japan” Minister Crosetto stated, “share the determination to strengthen cooperation in the industrial sector, starting with the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), which is based on complementarity rather than competition, in support of an increasingly solid bilateral cooperation aimed at ensuring defence and stability prerequisites for well being and development”
