Minister Crosetto in Ramstein for the Ukraine Defence Contact Group

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto took part in the meeting with Ukraine Defence Contact Group Allied and Partner nations, members of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group .

During the meeting Minister Crosetto confirmed Italy’s support for Ukraine: “We have reiterated the need to support Kiev in its fight for survival and to defend its sovereignty  and military as well as civilian infrastructures”. 
“We hope – he added- that the new year will bring the peace we are all waiting for, a fair peace, with the re-establishment of international law, allowing Ukraine to go back to life as normal, and the Ukrainian people who were forced to  leave the country to return there and rebuild it, as it deserves”.

The Ramstein meeting was an opportunity to take stock of of the ongoing conflict, update national contributions and coordinate joint efforts in the best possible way, assessing possible support options in the medium-to-long term.

In the margins of the meeting Minister Crosetto met with the US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov and Lithuanian Defence Minister Dovile Ŝakaliene. With them he discussed themes relevant to increasing cooperation in the defence sector and international stability and security.
