Defence Minister Guido Crosetto met with the personnel of the Italian National Contingent Command Air/Task Force Air Kuwait, to convey the greetings of the Defence and Government on the occasion of winter festivities, as well as gratitude for their valuable work.
"Our everyday commitment is essential to guarantee security, stability and peace. Serving the country means defending the values and principles that are the foundations of our system of law, but it also means protecting our children and loved ones to give them a future and the prospect of living in a free, safe country ", the minister said in his addressing the Italian military. Then, he added: "Today I am here as Minister of Defence, as a representative of the institutions, to thank you personally and on behalf of those who cannot be here with you. Thank you for serving".
During his visit, minister Crosetto also met with his counterpart, Sheikh Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah.
"Over this important, fruitful meeting - the minister said - we tackled themes that are crucial for regional stability, sharing our assessment on the delicate current dynamics in the Middle East: Syria, Lebanon and the Red Sea in particular. On Syria, we agreed on the importance of strengthening the conditions for durable stability, which is essential for regional stability. As for Lebanon, Italy's full support to the Lebanese Armed Forces was enhanced, as they are the fundamental pillar of stability and cohesion in that country. As regards Gaza, we agreed on the need to pursue the two peoples, two states principle, to guarantee a future based on dignity and mutual respect. Moreover, great satisfaction was expressed with the excellent state of our bilateral relations and the productive cooperation in the Defence sector. As to the latter, the Italian contingent continues to receive great appreciation for its valuable contribution to regional stability and security. I am convinced that dialogue and cooperation are fundamental tools to tackle common challenges and build a future of shared peace and development", Minister Crosetto said at the end of the meeting.
Over the next days Crosetto will also visit Baghdad and Erbil to deliver the greetings of the Defence on the occasion of winter festivities to the Italian military deployed in that area, and thank them for their valuable work.
"I am honoured to express gratitude, personally and on behalf of the Italian Government, as well as the closeness of all the Italian people, to our soldiers that will spend these holidays far from their loved ones to serve the country ", the minister concluded.
