The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, took part in the commemoration of the centenary of Francesco Merloni birth in Albacina di Fabriano, together with the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and numerous representatives from the worlds of politics, culture and business.
"He is an integral part of our country's history. Francesco Merloni was an entrepreneur, a member of parliament and a minister: three different roles, united by a single thread, that of responsibility. He was able to take up the legacy of his father Aristide, transforming a family business into an industrial group that provided employment and prospects for entire generations. What is striking, today as then, is Merloni's ability to see the company not only as a place of production, but as a tool for social growth. His vision was rooted in the Marche region and Fabriano, but always open to the country and the world. He was an example of how one can be deeply attached to one's roots without giving up on looking ahead. Alongside his entrepreneurial commitment, he served in the institutions, first as a member of parliament and then as a minister. There too, Merloni demonstrated the same style: sobriety, practicality and attention to people's real needs. Remembering him today means recognising him not only as a leading figure in Italian industrial development, but also as a witness to civilisation, capable of showing how work, politics and business can converge in a common project for growth.
It has been an honour for me to be here, in this land so dear to him, to pay tribute to a personality who left a lasting mark on 20th-century Italy. His example will continue to inspire those who believe in a country that grows while remaining faithful to its roots". Thus spoke Minister Guido Crosetto.
