The Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, took part today in Brussels in the Foreign Affairs Council in Defence format (FAC-D) and held a series of institutional meetings.

"Today an important and constructive discussion took place — the FAC — to reaffirm the central role of the EU Member States in the vision of an increasingly solid, efficient, and effective common European defence. We highlighted the need to enhance the missions of our deployed contingents already operating abroad, avoiding duplication and ensuring the involvement of other partner nations. Finally, we stressed that, for a stronger and more integrated European defence industry, it is increasingly necessary to standardize requirements and capabilities, fostering competition and competitiveness, including for our own industries. Our support for Ukraine and for NATO and EU initiatives in this field remains unchanged."

Thus stated the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto.

On the sidelines of the Council, the Minister had an important and positive meeting with Vasilis Palmas, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, a strategic partner for Mediterranean security and for the stability of a region crucial to Europe. During the bilateral meeting, the two Ministers “shared the responsibility of ensuring maritime security, protecting energy infrastructures, and supporting EU and NATO missions on the southern flank of the Mediterranean, on which the geopolitical, economic, and energy resilience of our entire continent depends.”

"In view of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council," Minister Crosetto emphasized, "we are working together for a European governance that respects the central role of the Member States. We support a continental approach to European defence that strengthens mutual synergies, reinforces common industrial competitiveness, and makes Europe increasingly prepared and authoritative in the face of global challenges."
