"17 September 2009. It is just after 12:10 local time. A convoy of Folgore paratroopers from the Italian Army is advancing towards the ISAF base. Suddenly, a car loaded with explosives slips between the armoured vehicles. The explosion is devastating.
Six Italian soldiers lose their lives: Lieutenant Antonio Fortunato, Sergeant Major Roberto Valente, First Corporal Massimiliano Randino, First Corporal Matteo Mureddu, First Corporal Gian Domenico Pistonami, First Corporal Davide Ricchiuto.
A day of immense pain. A void that remains in the hearts of their families, their fellow soldiers, and the entire nation. In memory of those who are no longer with us and the soldiers who still bear the wounds of that tragic event. A sacrifice that speaks of courage, dedication, and love for Italy". These were the words of Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on the anniversary of the attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.
