Defence Minister Guido Crosetto today, in Germany, has taken part in the 61st Munich Security Conference, the annual event dedicated to major foreign policy themes and current and future security challenges.
During the event Minister Crosetto met the US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellog: “Working together has never been as important as today: all together, without exception, to build a lasting peace and avoid weakening Ukraine, the European Union and NATO”, the Minister said.
In the sidelines of the event, Crosetto also held valuable talks with EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius: “Our discussion included defining a EU agenda to tackle relevant issues in a timely way, through a lean, swift decision-making process. Major themes are also the most urgent ones, and they are the same as those currently on NATO’s table, including the Ukrainian crisis: we must act immediately”.
In Munich Minister Crosetto also had a constructive discussion with his Singapore counterpart Ng Eng Hen: “Common interest in further developing our cooperation through new possible collaborations in the Defence sector. Singapore role in South-East Asia is strategic. There is a close connection between security in the Mediterranean and the Indo Pacific, and it remains a priority. We also focused on initiatives in the defence industry and advanced technology sector.”
In the sidelines of the Conference Minister Crosetto also met with his colleague from Montenegro, Dragan Krapović: a cordial meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation in the defence sector: “The Italian engagement in air space control, implemented by our Air Force, was appreciated. We must extend our cooperation to the land and maritime domain, and in the defence industry, starting from Adriatic nations. Focus on regional cooperation and Montenegro’s EU accession. Stability in the Western Balkans remains a strategic priority for Italy and the EU”.
Previously Crosetto had also met with President of Iraqi Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani: “An opportunity to confirm our friendship and the strong bond between our two countries, and highlight the link of our fruitful cooperation. We deepened important themes, including the situation in that region and the threat that Daesh still poses to the Middle East. We also focused on cooperation in the field of economy and energy”.
In Munich Minister Crosetto also met with his counterparts from Norway, Tore O. Sandvik, and Armenia, Suren Papikyan. “
