"I feel deep admiration and gratitude for the commitment of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in humanitarian activities in every part of the world. The mediation work of the SMOM is precious for international stability", Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, said this morning during his meeting with the Lieutenant of the Grand Master, H.E. F. John T. Dunlap, and with the heads of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, including the Grand Chancellor, H.E. Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo.

During the friendly talks, several relevant issues were discussed that included the Enlarged Mediterranean with particular reference to North Africa. Possible interventions, in line with the Order's traditional mission, concerning development, training and long-term economic growth programmes were also discussed.

A technical round table was also set up to discuss and further expand the Sovereign Military Order of Malta's tasks and intervention capabilities in agreement with the Italian institutions.

Lastly, the willingness to contribute to alleviating critical migratory situations with cooperation projects in the medical and rescue fields was renewed, also through the SMOM diplomatic network.
