Defence Minister Guido Crosetto attended the NATO Summit in The Hague (Netherlands) with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

"Today was a historic and very important day for the defence and security of all the countries of the Atlantic Alliance. Together with all our Allies, bound by a Treaty that has defended and protected us since 1949 and which, in recent years, has expanded to include countries that have remained neutral until recently, we have reaffirmed the strategic value of the Alliance," said Minister Crosetto, who also added: "This is an essential and crucial safeguard for the security, freedom and stability of the European and Atlantic areas.

In an international context marked by growing threats - from the war in Ukraine to terrorism, from energy security to the defence of critical infrastructure - Italy renews and reaffirms its pledge to a stronger, more cohesive NATO that is ready to face the challenges of the present and the future.

Today, NATO is much more than a military alliance: it is a community of values, a concrete guarantee of security and peace which, through its development and enlargement, can help the whole world. Italy will continue to play an active and responsible role in strengthening NATO and making it more and more capable of protecting the citizens of member countries and promoting stability, security and peace in the world.

Now, more than ever, we need unity, responsibility and strategic vision.

It is essential to defend peace today to guarantee security tomorrow."

On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Crosetto met yesterday with his counterparts from France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom: "An important opportunity for dialogue," said the Minister, "to reaffirm our shared commitment to strengthening international stability through ever closer cooperation within Europe and NATO. Focus on the current crises. We are working for a stronger NATO and a Europe that is more aware and responsible for its own defence and the security of its citizens."
